Mythos Academy (Gwen Frost) Series by Jennifer Estep

Hey all! So because I wasn't feeling well today, I decided to reread a series of one of my favorite authors due to the next book coming out in mid-december. I like to reread a series before the next installment comes out... especially when its been awhile since I have read the series. Its more of a skim read though. I don't read every paragraph because after reading a bit it all floods back to me. So I end up skipping descriptive paragraphs which is about 20% of the book. Hey, don't judge. I remember everything that happens, I DID read the book before. This time its just a refresher :)

The first book in the series is called Touch of Frost:

My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy -- a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody's head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest.     But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I'm determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why – especially since I should have been the one who died …

The Second book is Kiss of Frost:
I’m Gwen Frost, a second-year warrior-in-training at Mythos Academy, and I have no idea how I’m going to survive the rest of the semester. One day, I’m getting schooled in swordplay by the guy who broke my heart—the drop-dead gorgeous Logan who slays me every time. Then, an invisible archer in the Library of Antiquities decides to use me for target practice. And now, I find out that someone at the academy is really a Reaper bad guy who wants me dead. I’m afraid if I don’t learn how to live by the sword—with Logan’s help—I just might die by the sword…

The third book is Dark Frost:
I've seen so many freaky things since I started attending Mythos Academy last fall. I know I'm supposed to be a fearless warrior, but most of the time, I feel like I'm just waiting for the next Bad, Bad Thing to happen. Like someone trying to kill me--again.
Everyone at Mythos Academy knows me as Gwen Frost, the Gypsy girl who uses her psychometry magic to find lost objects--and who just may be dating Logan Quinn, the hottest guy in school. But I'm also the girl the Reapers of Chaos want dead in the worst way. The Reapers are the baddest of the bad, the people who murdered my mom. So why do they have it in for me? It turns out my mom hid a powerful artifact called the Helheim Dagger before she died. Now, the Reapers will do anything to get it back. They think I know where the dagger is hidden, but this is one thing I can't use my magic to find. All I do know is that the Reapers are coming for me--and I'm in for the fight of my life.

bought on Amazon. Kindle edition 401 pages.

Review on the series:
I am a big fan of Jennifer Estep as an author. Saying that, this is not my FAVOURITE series, the writing is a little bit immature but its not too distracting and doesn't take away from the story. The foreshadowing used in the story is a little too obvious, but Estep does have some surprises up her sleeve throughout the series. So, if you think you can read the beginning and read the ending, you just may be wrong.
I am a huge fan of the cliched 'tortured bad boy' and Estep does not disappoint you here. The Romantic aspect in the series isn't too cliched and isn't rushed in the slightest bit. (Jennifer is veryyyy good at carrying out romantic relationships through one of her series... it takes several books for things to solidify. which is something that frustrates me to no end, and i secretly love)
Did I mention the mythology? Another one of my favourite topics to read about. Actually, its probably my favourite right under medieval. This series has mythology galore! Not only Greek mythology (my favourite) but Norse, Roman, and some random stuff like ninjas and samurai's.
Overall, i'd give the series a 8.9/ 10 for story content and a 7/10 for writing. I'd suggest it for the mythology geeks and lovers out there and definitely those who enjoy a good romance story.

NOTE:
There IS a prequel to this series called First Frost. It is only 30 pages long and is basically a back story of what happened around the time of Gwen's mother (Grace)'s death and how everything went down and lead up to her attending Mythos Academy. I bought it (it was only $0.97 on amazon) and read it, but it isn't necessary at all to read the Mythos Academy series.
I am Gwen Frost, and I have a Gypsy gift. It’s called psychometry – that’s a fancy way of saying that I see images in my head and get flashes of other people’s memories off almost everything I touch, even guys.
My gift makes me kind of nosy. Okay, okay, maybe a lot nosy—to the point of obsession sometimes. I want to know everything about everyone around me. But even I don’t want to know the secrets my friend Paige is hiding or the terrible loss that will send me to a new school – Mythos Academy, where the teachers aren’t preparing us for the SATs, but to battle Reapers of Chaos. Now I have no friends and no idea how my gift fits in with all these warrior whiz kids. The only thing I do know is that my life is never, ever going to be the same...

ALSO BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR CRIMSON FROST! The fourth (or fifth if you count the prequel) in the Mythos Academy series coming out December 24, 2012.. assuming the world doesnt end first ;)
For a moment, a face flashed before my eyes--the most hideous face I'd ever seen. No matter how hard I tried to forget what had happened, I saw him everywhere I went. It was Loki--the evil god that I'd helped set free against my will.
I should have known that my first official date with Logan Quinn was destined to end in disaster. If we'd gotten into a swordfight, or been ambushed by Reapers, I'd have been more prepared. But getting arrested mid-sip at the local coffee hangout? I didn't see that one coming. I've been accused of purposely helping the Reapers free Loki from his prison--and the person leading the charge against me is Linus Quinn, Logan's dad. The worst part is that pretty much everyone at Mythos ACAemy thinks I'm guilty. If I'm going to get out of this mess alive, I'll have to do it myself. . .
384 pages Kindle edition.
