I love Peter Brett. If you don't know who he is, he is the author of The Warded Man, a book I HIGHLY recommend. If you follow me on Twitter, then you have already seen this, but for those who haven't, here is how the story goes:

I was on Goodreads looking at recent books I have read and seeing what other readers have rated them and reviewed. When I get the the Goodreads page for The Warded Man (which you can read for yourself HERE) I scrolled down to see this:

Now, if this doesn't show you how amazing this man is, then obviously something is wrong with you. He worked so amazingly hard on this series and he, along with his followers, are so proud of what he has accomplished. The Warded Man is easily one of my Favourite books of all time and has been the second I immersed myself into the book. I did review the book, which you can read HERE, but if my word isn't enough for you, the book is just as entertaining as the author that wrote it... and as seen above, he is pretty damned entertaining!!

My Review: 

There is something you should all know. This is possible the best book I have ever read. If you have seen my Reviews, and you know how picky and critical I am, you know how much this statement means to me. Peter Brett just went on the fast track to my top 5 favourite authors of all time– very high on that list at that. One of my oldest friends gave me this book and insisted I read it, even though it seemed a little dark for me, I followed his advice and read it. I didn't look back once and I love my friend dearly for introducing me to this fantastic book. 

Now about the book its self. The novel is split into 3 different story lines about 3 completely different people in 3 completely different parts of the world until they finally meet up at the end. Time wise, the book spans over 15 or so years. Not my usual repertoire  At first, I was frustrated with the switching of story lines. Right when one would get good, it would switch to something else. It was absolutely maddening, especially in the beginning, but you soon get into the flow of the other story lines and they are just as addicting as the first. Each story starts off with the main character as a child and you slowly watch them grow up. Peter Brett did this fantastically, never too slow, never too fast, and never spewing useless fluff at his readers to fill in the chapters and more pages. Every single word had a purpose, and every detail was important. 

The character development was phenomenal, the best I think I have ever seen. You see beliefs challenged, and watch as each character, and even some supporting characters, change as time goes forward. You see how other characters effect the main ones and how the main characters effect the others. You understand the reasoning behind the main characters actions, you accept their beliefs in accordance to their personality and upbringing, and you approve (for the most part) of the choices they make in the situation they are in. Everything is incredibly realistic in this aspect and I have never seen an author perfect such a thing to this magnitude. 

I don't really know what else I can say other than the fact I don't really have any complaints about this book. It was absolutely fantastic!!! The friend who lent me the first in the series, knowing how speedily I read (I started this first book last night at 8pm and finished at 6:30pm today while having gone to school in the middle... I sacrificed a lot of sleep on this one), lent me the second in the series that I am going to start the second this post is published. For the record it is called The Desert Spear. I'll keep you all informed in the sequel and if it measures up to the first.

Crossing Fire (Heretic Daughters Book 2) by Rebecca K. Lilley cover reveal!!!

Hey guys!

Sorry, this is not a review, and I know how long some of you have been waiting for book 2 of the Heretic Daughters series to come out... believe me, I am RIGHT there with you. After rereading the book today, I thought I would check in with Rebecca K. Lilley's website to see if she had made any additional comments as to when the release is going to be. The bad news? No date set in stone yet. But the good news is that we DO have a title and we DO have a cover and we even have a little teaser from Miss Lilley herself. All of this is posted below. I will keep you guys updated on the book, and I think I might even start doing monthly "Up Coming Releases" posts. What do y'all think? My Review:

I want to start off by saying that the premise of this book was fantastic. The ideas —outstanding. The writing— intriguing. The plot— all the main ingredients for perfection... the execution—ehh, a little lacking. 

Lets start from the beginning. Everything was extremely rushed. Bea going to school, learning about Force and  about her impending birthday,  making friends, trusting said friends... it all seemed to just happen without much of a transition. This was a common theme throughout the novel that lead to a bit of whip lash. It seemed new information, or events, or battles, or people would just pop up out of no where without any signal or foretelling. In fact, this story lacked in foretelling plot wise that ultimately hindered the story over all. I would normally only give a 3 star rating to a book like this... however, the actual story more than made up for transition issues. 

Where the story lacking in transition, it made up for in mystery and intrigue. I was constantly at the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. The descriptions were so enthralling and detailed that I found myself laughing, raging, crying, and being confused and lost (as a character) right along with Bea. The story was actually well written in terms of word use, cliff hangers, and the MOST important, character development. And after giving all of this praise, you know why I couldn't give this book a 3 star rating, but I couldn't give it a perfect 5 out of 5 either.

I wonder if the idea of this story was inspired by Kristin Cashore's Fire. The description of Bea reminded me so much of her. The enthralling beauty, the fact that people start by hating her and fearing her, but she is such a lost and scared person that she can't help but draw people in... I loved it. I loved it in Fire and I loved it here. 

As for the romantic aspect, I am so torn between Joseph (aka Harbringer as he is more commonly referred to) and Hazen. I feel that on a practical level, things with Hazen could never work out. He is a little judgy, he is moral, and he pries into Bea's mind constantly and doesn't always like what he sees...then goes all scowly. But, he is always there for her, and obviously loves her. But I am definitely leaning toward team Joseph. He is bad ass, able to handle her powers (aka compulsion so he isn't madly gah gah over her) and no so judgy. But he an older man.... who am I kidding, I think thats hot! I hope I get to see more interaction between the two in the next book!
